The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced a nationwide one-day prayer session scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, calling on all churches across the country to unite in seeking divine intervention over what it described as ongoing “gen0c!de” targeting Christians in several parts of Nigeria.

The decision was reached during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the association held in Jos, Plateau State. This was revealed in an official memo dated November 20, 2025, and signed by the CAN General Secretary, Apostle Prof. Samson A. Fatokun.

CAN Issues National Directive to Churches

According to the memo, all bloc leaders, zonal and state chairmen, heads of church denominations, and resident pastors are expected to mobilize their congregations for the coordinated prayer service. The directive emphasizes that the prayers should be conducted simultaneously in churches and Christian assemblies nationwide.

The memo titled “Declaration of a One-Day Nationwide Prayer Against Christian Genocide in Nigeria” noted that the special prayer session is designed to address five major concerns currently affecting Christian communities and the nation at large.

Five Key Prayer Points

CAN listed the focus of the December 7 prayer as follows:

  1. Seeking divine intervention to end the alleged persecution and targeted violence against Christians in Nigeria.
  2. Praying for the safe return and resettlement of displaced victims across affected communities.
  3. Asking God to halt the activities of terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits operating in different parts of the country.
  4. Interceding for leaders in government, asking God to grant them wisdom and the right judgment to address national challenges.
  5. Praying for the restoration of peace, stability, and unity throughout Nigeria.

“Take This Prayer with All Fervency” — CAN President

In the memo, CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okah, urged all churches to take the directive seriously and participate wholeheartedly.

“The CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okah, has directed that this prayer be taken with all fervency,” the statement read. “We strongly believe that our God will rise in power as He did in Esther’s time.”

The association also referenced 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Esther 4:15–16, urging Christians to approach the prayer with humility, unity, and faith, expressing confidence that the effort would result in divine intervention for the nation.

CAN Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Christians

The leadership of CAN concluded by assuring Nigerian Christians that the association remains committed to protecting their interests, advocating for their safety, and amplifying their concerns at local and national levels.

As preparation for the prayer day intensifies, churches across the country are expected to align their worship schedules and mobilize members to participate in what CAN describes as a critical spiritual duty aimed at seeking God’s intervention for Nigeria’s peace and stability.
