Dr. Rasheed Alassi

Popular Nigerian medical practitioner, Dr. Rasheed Alassi, has sparked conversations across social media after sharing his views on masturbation, popularly referred to as “soapy” in Nigerian slang.

Speaking during a recent intellectual discussion, the doctor stated that there is nothing medically wrong with men engaging in masturbation. According to him, regular ejaculation can be beneficial to male health and should not be viewed as something harmful from a medical standpoint.

Dr. Alassi explained that many misconceptions surrounding masturbation are often influenced by cultural beliefs, religious interpretations, and societal opinions rather than scientific evidence. He maintained that from a medical perspective, the act itself does not pose a health risk to men when practiced responsibly.

In his words: “Am telling you now as a doctor there is nothing wrong with soapy for men.”

The statement quickly gained traction online, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions on the sensitive topic. While some users agreed with the doctor’s position and argued that scientific facts should be separated from religious and cultural beliefs, others insisted that the issue goes beyond physical health and touches on spiritual and moral concerns.

One social media user, identified as @Agbomjrn, argued that many Nigerians often reject certain facts because of religious beliefs. According to the commenter, people tend to focus heavily on religion while sometimes ignoring practical realities and scientific explanations.

Another user, @cur_og, disagreed with the doctor’s view, claiming that masturbation has spiritual consequences. The commenter stated that it could expose individuals to negative spiritual influences and emphasized the importance of personal cleanliness after sexual activities.

A third commenter, @wrightmicheal90, approached the discussion from a social angle. He suggested that many Nigerian men may increasingly see masturbation as an alternative because of the perceived financial demands associated with modern dating and relationships.

The debate has continued to generate mixed reactions online, highlighting the divide between medical opinions, religious beliefs, cultural values, and personal experiences. While health professionals often discuss the subject from a scientific standpoint, many members of the public continue to interpret it through moral and spiritual lenses.
