A group of supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday staged a counter-protest in Abuja, expressing support for the administration while condemning ongoing demonstrations by opposition groups and government critics.
The protesters, who were seen carrying banners bearing President Tinubu’s name and images, marched through parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling on Nigerians to allow the president focus on governance. Their demonstration comes amid a series of protests organized by opposition figures and activist groups who have continued to criticize the administration over issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and governance.
The pro-Tinubu demonstrators appeared to be responding directly to recent protests associated with social media activist VeryDarkMan’s Ratel Movement and activist Omoyele Sowore’s RevolutionNow Movement. According to the group, some of the criticisms directed at the federal government are politically motivated and aimed at undermining President Tinubu’s leadership.
During the protest, members of the group made a controversial allegation regarding the recent schoolchildren kidnapping incident in Oyo State. They claimed that political opponents of President Tinubu were responsible for hiding the children in an attempt to create public outrage against the administration. However, the protesters did not provide any evidence to support the allegation.
Some members of the group also directed criticism at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of pursuing presidential ambitions and suggesting that the schoolchildren crisis was being politicized for political gain.
In a video circulating online, one of the protesters was heard saying: “Person want to be president, it’s not by hiding our children. We’ll say enough is enough. They should allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rule.”
The remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media, with supporters praising the group for defending the president, while critics questioned the basis of the allegations made during the demonstration. Political observers note that tensions between supporters and critics of the current administration have continued to intensify as debates over security and economic challenges remain at the forefront of national discourse.
The development highlights the growing political divisions in the country as supporters and critics of the Tinubu administration continue to clash over the direction of governance and the handling of key national issues.
