The young man, whose institution was not disclosed, made the remarks during an interview where he praised the Federal Government’s student support initiatives, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). According to him, the scheme has made higher education more accessible to many students who previously struggled to afford tuition and other academic expenses.
His comments have since sparked intense debate among Nigerians, especially at a time when concerns about insecurity, economic hardship, and the rising cost of living remain major national issues.
NELFUND Giving Students New Opportunities
Speaking on the impact of the student loan initiative, the student leader argued that the program has changed the educational landscape by providing financial support to students regardless of their family background.
In his words:
“At these junction there is no Nigerian students that will tell you they are not enjoying the policies of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, why? Because of the NELFUND.
“If you check each Nigerian students receives about N20,000 every month for pocket money and their fees are being paid, so you don’t need to be a child of an elite before you go to school.”
According to him, the availability of educational funding has reduced the burden on many families and created opportunities for students who might otherwise have been unable to pursue tertiary education.
