Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on Nigerians to stop directing insults and blame at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s persistent security challenges. The former Ebonyi State governor made the remarks during a conference where he openly expressed his support for the President amid growing concerns about insecurity across various parts of the country. Umahi argued that the security problems currently facing Nigeria did not begin under Tinubu’s administration and should not be solely attributed to the present government. According to him, insecurity has remained a long-standing national issue that has affected successive administrations over the years.
Speaking passionately at the event, the minister questioned the pattern of increased security incidents whenever election periods draw near. He suggested that there may be individuals or groups benefiting from instability and attempting to create tension ahead of major political contests.
In his words: “Stop insulting President Tinubu. Insecurity did not start under his administration. Why is it that anytime there is an election, insecurity increases? It is unfair. God is watching those behind the insecurity. We are praying for President Tinubu.”
Concerns Over Rising Insecurity
Nigeria has continued to battle several security threats, including banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, communal clashes, and other criminal activities. These incidents have often sparked public criticism of government officials, with many citizens demanding stronger action from authorities. Join our WhatsApp channel.
However, Umahi believes it is unfair to place all responsibility on the current administration, noting that the challenges were inherited and require collective efforts to overcome. He stressed that solving insecurity is not the responsibility of the federal government alone but also requires the cooperation of security agencies, state governments, communities, and citizens.
