David Ibiyeomie

A recent statement by popular Nigerian cleric, David Ibiyeomie, has ignited widespread reactions across social media platforms, following a viral video in which he spoke about tithing, offerings, and financial giving in the Christian faith. The remark, which centered on the importance of “correct tithe” and generous offerings, has drawn both support and criticism from Nigerians and beyond.

Pastor’s Strong Message on Giving

In the circulating video, the cleric emphasized that financial giving is a crucial spiritual principle that directly impacts a believer’s life. According to him, failing to pay the appropriate tithe could result in hardship. He stressed that beyond tithing, Christians should also prioritize giving “quality offerings.”

In his words:
“You have to pay correct tithe if you don’t want your life to be tight. After tithe, give quality offerings. The minimum offerings I give on Sundays is $12,000 and the minimum I give on week days is $2,000. If you don’t give me offering I’ll still be stinkingly rich. Stinginess is the gateway to poverty and giving is the gateway to prosperity. Every poor man is stingy.”

The pastor went further to make a personal declaration, stating that if he ever failed to meet his stated level of giving, he believed God should take his life—a statement that has particularly fueled online conversations.

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The bold claims have triggered intense debate. While some followers and supporters agree with the principle of sacrificial giving and see it as a demonstration of faith and commitment, others have questioned the practicality and implications of such teachings, especially in a country where many citizens struggle with economic challenges.

Critics argue that statements linking poverty directly to stinginess may overlook broader systemic issues such as unemployment, inflation, and limited opportunities. On the other hand, supporters insist that the message aligns with long-standing prosperity teachings within certain Christian circles.
