VeryDarkMan Criticizes President’s Democracy Day Speech

Popular Nigerian activist and founder of the Ratel Movement, VeryDarkMan, has once again sparked conversations online after publicly criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Democracy Day speech, particularly his remarks on insecurity and terrorism in the country.

In a video shared shortly after the President addressed Nigerians on Democracy Day, the outspoken social commentator questioned the government’s approach to tackling banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes that have continued to threaten lives and property across the nation.

President Tinubu, during his speech, issued a stern warning to bandits, terrorists, and their sponsors, urging them to surrender or be prepared to face the full force of the Nigerian state. The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security, emphasizing that criminal elements would no longer be allowed to destabilize the country.

However, VeryDarkMan expressed dissatisfaction with the statement, arguing that the time for warnings had long passed. According to him, Nigerians expect decisive action rather than repeated threats directed at criminal groups that have operated for years without showing any sign of surrender.

The activist questioned why terrorists and bandits should continue to be given ultimatums when they have consistently carried out attacks, kidnappings, and other violent activities across various parts of the country. He maintained that stronger measures should be implemented immediately to protect citizens and restore public confidence.

Speaking in the video, VeryDarkMan said:

“This is why I don’t have confidence in Tinubu. How are you saying bandits and their sponsors should surrender or they’ll face the Nigerian state? So pending when they surrender, they can continue to cause havoc. Tinubu, this is the time for you to move in.”

His comments quickly generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions. While some agreed with his concerns and called for more aggressive action against criminal groups, others defended the President, arguing that security operations require strategic planning and cannot always be disclosed publicly.

The criticism comes amid growing public concern over insecurity in several regions of the country. Issues such as kidnappings, attacks by armed groups, and violent crimes remain major topics of national discussion.
